technician giving man echocardiogram

An echocardiogram is an ultrasound of the heart. It evaluates the muscle of the heart and its chambers and provides information about how well the heart is functioning. The UMMC Midtown Campus Division of Cardiology has two cardiac ultrasound scanners. The studies can be done in the Cardiology Department or at the patient's bedside.

An exercise echocardiogram uses the same principle as the exercise or pharmacological induced stress test, except the patient is scanned by ultrasound immediately following the stress portion of the test.
