El dolor muscular se relaciona más frecuentemente con la tensión, con sobrecarga o con una lesión muscular a causa del ejercicio o trabajo físicamente exigente. Los dolores y achaques musculares son comunes y pueden involucrar más de un músculo al mismo tiempo. El dolor en los músculos puede también involucrar el tejido blando que los circunda. Estas estructuras, usualmente denominadas tejido conectivo, abarcan los ligamentos, los tendones y la fascia (bandas gruesas de tendones).
